Visa or Mastercard casino deposit declined or pending

Check the card type, bank gambling block and verification prompt before contacting the casino. What to send when money is taken but not credited.

Why your deposit has not arrived

Visa and Mastercard behave the same way at a casino cashier. Use the same four checks for either: the card is a credit card, your bank has a gambling block, the verification step did not complete, or the operator is holding your account. Only the operator-side hold is the casino's to fix.

For other methods, see casino deposit pending or missing, by payment method.

The credit card rule in Britain

The Gambling Commission banned credit card gambling on 14 April 2020. Gambling businesses in Britain must not accept credit card payments for gambling. Debit cards are unaffected by that ban.

The bank verification step

For an online card payment, look for your bank's request to confirm it is you. This usually appears in your banking app or as a code. If you miss, dismiss or let that prompt time out, the payment fails before it reaches the operator. The casino sees no completed payment.

This is a practical troubleshooting check. The Gambling Commission source below covers the credit card ban, not your bank's verification process.

Check these before you contact support

  1. Check whether your card is a debit card or a credit card. In Britain, a credit card is refused for gambling.
  2. Check your banking app for a gambling block. Keep a block in place if you set it to control your gambling.
  3. Check for an unanswered verification prompt in your banking app or messages.
  4. Check whether your bank declined the payment. Ask the bank for the reason.
  5. Check the casino's transaction history, not just your Balance.

What to send the operator

Contact the operator about missing money only once your bank shows the payment as taken, not just a pending authorisation. Send the time, amount, last four digits of your card and a screenshot of the bank's entry. Hide unrelated transactions and the rest of your card number.

If the payment was declined, ask whether they received an authorisation attempt at all.

When to escalate

Use an hour as your follow-up point for an instant card deposit. If the bank shows a completed payment and the casino has not credited it, send a formal complaint in writing. Then follow the complaints route for the licence the operator holds. This timing is guidance, not a regulatory deadline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my card work everywhere except gambling sites?

Gambling is coded separately from ordinary retail. Banks and card issuers can block gambling payments specifically. Check your bank's reason for the decline.

Is a pending card deposit at risk of being taken twice?

You risk paying twice if you retry before the first payment clears. Check your banking app first. Do not send another payment while the first is unresolved.

Does it matter whether it is Visa or Mastercard?

Not for these checks. The failure causes and fixes are the same. Start with the card type, bank block, verification prompt and transaction history.
